FUTUREMAN of Grammy award winning group, Bela Feck and the Flecktones, resumed recording of his orchestral series, THE AMERICAN and SECRET KINGS, December 14-16 at KALIMBA STUDIO in Nashville, TN.
These pieces honor one of classical music\'s greatest and forgotten composers from the 18th century, Le Chavalier de Saint-George, termed THE BLACK MOZART. This epic work consists of 2 multi-media works of 8 and 6 movements respectively. The works are influenced by Copeland, Bartok and Stravinsky. They rely on highly rhythmic Americana folk motives with Stravinsky like harmonies and phrasing. Futureman conducted and recorded a scaled down octet of the larger orchestrated work with area professionals and string students. The recording was done at Nashville\'s, KALIMBA STUDIO, that specializes in high quality independent projects.
Futureman also recorded 17 year old prodigy, KEVIN JABBONSKI, a Rice University student, recommended by bassist, EDGAR MYERS. Jabbonski recorded solo bass parts as well as parts for other classical multi-media works. These additional works incorporated rap, electronics and synthesis with strings and voices. This adds to a growing number of pieces that will include film, dance, and performances based on the American traditions. Futureman gives heavy emphasis to the black traditions of old-time, banjo, rap, gospel and religion. The project was engineered and mixed by Nashville producer, Jim Roberts.
Other related works include \"THE SEAMLESS SCRIPT\" recorded at Kalimba Studio in December of 2000. This disc included works that have been expanded, most notably, the Rite of Osiris. It was performed as \"The Drums of Osiris on \"The Seamless Script\". The disc featured ROYEL (aka Futureman) on \"Phiano\" (a Royel invention), percussion and vocals, ALOKE DUTTA on Tabla and vocals, and HUNTER LEE on Uilleann Pipes, Irish Flute, Didgeridoo and vocals. Additional acoustic percussion was performed by JIM ROBERTS.
These works are directly tied in the present works as his continuation of exploration of Americana in modern works and experimentation.
In January, Futureman returned to touring with the Flecktones after the group had taken a year hiatus.
